Let’s first talk about, Stress.

What is Stress| Definition of Stress

Stress is a condition or stage where your mind and physical body are unable to bear or handle tension or pressure. Stress is a serious problem and it’s absolutely not a joke. People basically ignore the stress thinking this is a small issue that will be fixed soon. But permanent stress can actually lead to depression and anxiety.

Stress can come when you are angry, excited, nervous, or you have a deadline to meet. Sometimes stress can be positive. Suppose you have a deadline to meet and you have not yet completed the task. Your state of mind will be pushed by the stress and you will be triggered to work extra and more and you will pressurize yourself to complete the project before or on time.

What are the causes of stress?

Stress can be caused by different events which can affect your mind and can lead to serious health issues. I guess no one wants to permanently damage their brain and mind because ultimately brain is the CPU of the body which means if your brain is damaged your body cannot function, there will be simply no use of the body if your brain is damaged, and not functioning properly. So it’s very important that you take care of your mental health.

So, now let’s talk about some of the causes that lead to stress.

  • Overthinking – Are you a person who overtinks? If you are a person who overthinks then it will cause serious headaches and eventually you will gain stress and this can permananently led you to depression.
  • Lots of pressure – Working from home has foced us to take a lot of pressure. Apart from working hours some companies wants their employees to work extra but some companies are really good that they understand employee situation and want you to leave on time. Apart from office work, you also sometimes get home pressure which can lead to permanent stress.
  • Worrying about Money – If you are working hard to earn money that’s completely fine but if you are worrying about money all the time then this can definitely lead to headaches and stress, which will affect your health and body. So do not worry much about money instead work hard to earn money and achieve your goals.
  • Worrying about Poor health – Its said and proven already that “Prevention is better than cure“. If you are worrying too much about health than you are at wrong path. Instead think and make certain healthy habits and follow healthy lifestyle. If you will worry too much about Poor health, you will waste your precious time in thinking instead go and work and follow healthy habits.
  • Facing Big Changes and Challenges – Have you have had faced any big changes and challenges in your life? I guess most of the people have faced that. I know as you will encounter the changes and challanges for the first time, you will be little scared, excited and you will be in little pressure. All is fine, these are normal and natural things that are faced by all. Take the changes and challanges your opportunity and try to extract positive outcome from the situation. On the other hand, if you are facing changes and challenges and you are too scared of it and not ready to accept, think can lead to serious issue like stress.

So these were a few reasons which can cause serious issue called stress. Now let’s talk about the simple ways in which you can reduce your normal stress or work from home stress.

8 Simple Ways to Reduce Work From Home Stress

We talked a lot about what is stress, what are the causes of stress? So can you tell me if working from home has caused stress for you? For some people, it has actually been a lot of stress, especially working moms and dads. Even youngsters are also going through a lot of stress due to work pressure. So now, let’s talk about how you can reduce your work-from-home stress.

1. Organize your daily Routine

If you are a person who is not organized then you will definitely have to go through a rough day which will definitely spoil your work mood and you will end up saying that you had a bad day today. So don’t be like that!

Organize your day. Do proper planning, distribute your time according to the work, and spend accordingly. If you are facing issues in following your daily routine or you forget your daily plans then I would suggest you write your plans on paper and distribute your time and make sure to paste that paper which is visible to you all the time. If you organize your daily routine, you will definitely get proper time for yourself too.

2. Exercise daily for at least 30 minutes

Working from home has messed up all. Especially sitting in one place for a long time can actually cause serious issues. Your mind is actually filled with a lot of things. So now you need to destress yourself. Doing exercise is the best way to reduce stress.

If you are a working professional or a house worker, you should take out at least 30 minutes of your daily routine and should do exercise to open up your body muscle and release stress.

The best time to do the exercise is in the morning when the cold air and weather are felt by your body. In the morning you will see less pollution, fewer people, fewer vehicles which means ultimately less disturbance and more focus. You can do various exercises and also go for cycling or jogging.

3. Do Yoga and meditation

Doing regular yoga not only helps your body flexibility but also reduces your daily stress. It’s obvious that if your 24 hours are so much busy you will start gaining stress and because of stress, your daily routine will be hindered. I understand that due to working from home, you have a busy schedule. But if you take out 30 – 35 minutes from your daily routine and do Yoga and meditation daily it will definitely help you to reduce stress.

Meditation can actually produce a deep state of relaxation in your mind. During meditation, your all focus should be at one place and you should think something positive and joyful which literally eliminates your jumbled-up thoughts which generally creates tension and stress. So for the wellness and good health of your mind, you should definitely add Yoga and meditation to your daily routine.

4. Set the boundary between Work Life and Personal Life

As we are working from home it’s very important that we set a boundary between a Work-Life and Personal Life. Our life is full of necessities, requirements, luxuries, so in order to fulfill that we do work so that we can enjoy our life. But sometimes we forget to live our life happily and we get more stressed out.

Life is too long and you still have so much time to achieve your goals. Do work hard but specify the time for yourself and your family. If you are working from home it doesn’t mean you will spend all your time at work. I see that Pandemic has taught us a lot. It has also given us time to spend a good time with your near and dear ones. So it’s very important that you maintain a balance between your Work-Life and Personal Life.

5. Follow your Passion and Hobby

Following your passion and Hobby can really help you to reduce stress. I have done a few experiments and it really helped me. I’m a person who likes painting and plants help me to revive and relax my mind.

When I started working from home, it was really stressing me out because I was not following the proper healthy routine. I then listen to my heart and picked up the painting brush and started painting. It really felt joyful and I felt like I’m living my childhood days. I also like planting, and my more love is towards cactus so you can call me Xerophile.

Similarly, you can also follow your passion and hobby. Do things that make you and your mind happy. Let yourself go and live your life without stress.

6. Add reading habits and write Journal or Diary

It’s a fact that by reading, you will not only gain knowledge but it will help you to be focussed and if you are focussed on reading then definitely your focus will be diverted from stress. So if you are thinking about what should you read, then my answer for you is to read anything which you like for eg, if you are much into novels then develop a habit of reading novel stories.

Are you a person who likes writing journals or diaries? If not, start writing. Its been proven that writing a journal or diary helps you to reduce stress. You can write down your thoughts and daily routine and release your stress. Make your journal or diary your best friend.

7. Eat healthy and nutritious foods

Working from home has changed the habits of almost all people. We have started eating a lot of unhealthy food which mostly contains junk, oily and carbonated food. When you take your lifestyle from healthy to unhealthy not only does your body sizes changes but also your mind isn’t able to think properly.

So if you are eating unhealthy foods, it’s the right time to stop unhealthy habits and start eating healthy and nutritious foods. You will have to schedule your eating habits and will have to start eating healthy and nutritious foods. In this way, you will not stay healthy but also you will reduce stress and your body and mind will feel healthy and lively.

8. Travel

You must be thinking, how traveling can reduce stress? Oh yes, you heard right. Travelling can actually reduce your stress. If you are going through tension or stress because of any reason, you must plan to travel. Travelling can be a short trip, long vacation, long walk, long drive but the most important thing is to go outside of your house.

When you go outside, travel, see people, see their sadness ultimately you will forget your stress. Your mind will start thinking about others’ problems, you will start enjoying their happiness, you will explore new places and food. So if you are getting stressed out because of work-from-home things or personal reasons, don’t stress out, just let yourself go outside, spend some time with yourself and the people around you.
